Applejack is slowly walking along a dry desert as the hot wind blows sand on her face and mane. She looks upward at the burning sun, only to see the three vultures still slowly circle around her barley obscuring its relentless rays. – Celestia really cranked up the juice today – She thinks to herself while looking over her half empty water flask. The old torn up poncho she has on, does nothing to protect her from the heat. In the distance she sees something that looks like a town or just another mirage. With nothing to lose Applejack picks up the pace in hope of finding water.

Luck had smiled on her this time as she finely made it to an old beaten up wooden sign in front of the town.“Welcome to Appaloosa” it reads. Two very disappointed vultures are sitting on it staring at her intensely. Applejack smiles with relief, and walks in the direction of the town.

“Appaloosa” used to be an apple farming town (hence the name), but the land dried up and its economy waned. Now it’s an old run down pit, only suitable for murderers or thieves that pass by, trying to avoid the authorities. It’s the only way it can make any kind of income. And there is also the occasional buffalo raid on the town every two weeks or so. The town looks in serious disrepair, most ponies here are minding their own business, pushing carts and unloading cargo crates from wagons. Next to an old shack a pony that looks just as old, is rocking on his chair smoking a pipe. A grave maker, that by the looks of his black fancy clothes, business is booming, looks over at his golden watch. – Hurry up you lazy mules! What do I pay you for anyway?! – He yells at the two pack mules dragging a pile of graves on their backs. Applejack notices a saloon in the middle of town. “Apple-Worm” it seas on the sign. – What a strange name of a saloon. – She thinks to herself.

Inside the bar a pink pony plays the piano to entertain the drunken violent costumers. Some ponies sit at the table gambling away the last of their bits. Smoke and the smell of booze permeate the air. Colts laugh loudly trying to grab the mares on the stage preforming the Can-Can dance. This truly is a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

All of this stops and salience fills the air when Applejack walks inside. It’s as if time itself has stopped while she slowly passes by most of the crooks starring at her uncomfortably. They all calm down and slowly return to their business when she makes it to the bar.

Cider. On ice. – She looks at the fat bartender unicorn cleaning the whiskey cups. He levitates a bottle next to her and serves the drink. – Leave the bottle. – AJ says barley looking up at him. – Hey you! – AJ is interrupted in the middle of her drinking by an angry looking red pony and his two other thugs. – Yeah you! I know you. – Applejack ignores the call. – Hey look at me when im talking to you – the red pony persists pointing a gun at her. – Hey I don’t want no trouble here pal take it outside. – The bartender protests. In a blink of an eye, AJ fires of her six shooter from behind blowing all of the guns of their hoofs. Shocked, they take out their knifes and rush at her. AJ swiftly pulls a stool in front of her and trips one of them making him lunge face down on a poker table (interrupting a very intense game in the process). Twisting the second thug’s knife from his hoof she throws him outside the bar thought the window. Then grabs the red pony and smashes his face on the bar table.

Applejack: Well yes you do know me, but I’m not after you, I’m looking for Billy the Filly. And I happen to know that you know where to find him.

The Red pony thug: I don’t know nothing!

Applejack: If there is anything I hate more than a common thug… it’s a liar. – AJ breaks the Cider bottle next to her and points it at him.

Hey AJ! – Some pony yells outside the saloon. – I’m done running; let’s finish this like real ponies!

Applejack lets the red pony go and throws a couple of bits on the bar table. – Here, for your trouble.

She steps outside to see an empty street and a lone pony standing his ground. Billy the Filly they call him. Him being all grown up now this name doesn’t really fit anymore. But ponies call him that all the same. A big torn noose hangs from his sweaty neck as he is getting ready for the duel.

Billy the Filly: You almost had me on that train! But as we all know almost doesn’t count now does it?

Applejack: You lied about the train carts. You know how much I hate liars.

Billy the Filly: You know me, anything to get an edge. – He smiles.

They both get ready to reach for their guns. Watching each other intensely, as the sun slowly sets in the background. Some of the villagers close the windows and hide inside while others are placing bets.

Both of them stand there waiting for the clock to finely hit eight. The bell rings and in an instant both of them open fire…
